Numbers

The children really love this u tube clip. Please share it with them.

When children start to notice numbers and show that they can count beyond 10, it is pretty exciting stuff.

Here are some ideas to support learning at home.

1. Read letter box numbers down your street.

2. Ask your child to count as you fill a bag of fruit at the supermarket.
Ask: "How many if I add one more?" / "I think we have got too many. I will put one apple back. How many do we have now?"

3. Children love big numbers. Again at the supermarket or at the shop, ask your child to estimate what the cost will be. They will probably say a big number that doesn't quite make sense. No need to correct. As the amount comes up on the screen, read it out and let them repeat it with you.

4. Flip the words to Guess how much I love you.

eg  I love you 5 hugs... I love you 20 hugs  I love you 200 Hugs.
